We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a growing organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. This Long-term Contract position is fully remote and expected to average 20 hours per week, offering an excellent opportunity for a hands-on individual who can manage daily financial activity with accuracy and consistency. The ideal candidate will bring strong general ledger expertise and a solid background in reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end accounting.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain accurate accounting records by preparing and posting journal entries related to payroll, employee benefits, retirement contributions, and insurance activity
Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis, investigate discrepancies, and ensure cash activity is properly reflected in the general ledger
Distribute payroll and benefit-related costs to the appropriate functional areas, including research and development, and record those allocations accurately
Oversee routine general ledger activity, including debit and credit analysis, to support clean and reliable financial reporting
Process and track approximately 150 invoices or bills each month, ensuring timely and accurate recording of payables
Support month-end close activities by reviewing account balances, preparing reconciliations, and resolving outstanding items
Perform account reconciliations across key balance sheet and expense accounts to maintain financial accuracy
Assist with ongoing accounting operations for a small employee population and provide dependable day-to-day financial support
Contribute to special accounting tasks as needed, including updates tied to internal processes or system-related changes when applicable
Requirements:
Proven experience in senior-level accounting work with strong knowledge of general ledger operations
Hands-on expertise with month-end close, including journal entries and account analysis
Demonstrated ability to complete bank reconciliations and resolve variances efficiently
Solid background in account reconciliation and maintaining accurate financial records
Experience recording payroll and employee benefit transactions within the general ledger
Strong understanding of debits, credits, and expense allocation practices
Ability to manage recurring transactional volume with close attention to detail and deadlines
Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment on a part-time schedule
