We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a busy accounting team within a defense contracting environment. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, can contribute quickly, work independently with limited direction, and help stabilize a high-volume workload. The role will focus on core accounting operations, period-end activities, audit-related support, and revenue recognition matters while maintaining strong compliance standards.
Job Responsibility
Manage monthly and year-end close activities, ensuring financial records are complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule
Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and resolve accounting issues through detailed analysis
Perform account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations while researching and correcting variances promptly
Support work-in-progress tracking and apply revenue recognition practices in accordance with ASC 606 requirements
Assist with incurred cost audit support by organizing documentation, validating financial data, and responding to accounting-related requests
Help the department address backlog by taking ownership of day-to-day accounting tasks with minimal oversight
Maintain accurate records and follow established accounting policies and internal compliance standards within a regulated contractor setting
Use QuickBooks Enterprise and Microsoft Office tools to analyze data, prepare reports, and improve the efficiency of recurring accounting processes
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate or government contracting environment
Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, and journal entry preparation
Proven ability to complete account and bank reconciliations with a high level of accuracy
Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise and Microsoft Office applications
Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to analyze large data sets and prepare detailed financial schedules
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and contribute effectively within a small accounting team
Prior experience supporting a defense contractor or working with audit and compliance requirements is strongly preferred
