We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a construction organization in Orlando, Florida. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting and finance specialist who excels in job cost accounting, works effectively across departments, and brings a hands-on approach to financial oversight. The position is primarily office-based and offers the opportunity to contribute to budgeting, project support, and ongoing operational improvement while building toward broader responsibilities.
Job Responsibility:
Manage core accounting activities including month-end close, general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and balance sheet reconciliations
Track and analyze project-related costs to ensure accurate job costing and reliable financial reporting across active workstreams
Review and process change orders while maintaining supporting documentation that aligns financial records with project activity
Oversee hauling ticket documentation and verify related cost details for completeness, accuracy, and proper accounting treatment
Partner with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to support monthly budget reviews and cost discussions
Perform bank reconciliations and investigate variances to help maintain accurate cash records and timely issue resolution
Prepare financial data and reports using advanced Excel tools to support analysis, decision-making, and operational planning
Contribute to training-related travel on an occasional basis and support process adoption across company locations as needed
Requirements:
At least 5 years of accounting experience, including strong exposure to month-end close and general ledger responsibilities
Demonstrated expertise in job cost accounting
experience in construction or a project-based environment is strongly preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to work efficiently with detailed financial data and reporting
Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations in a fast-paced business setting
Strong communication skills with a proven ability to coordinate effectively with multiple departments and external partners
Comfortable working primarily in an office environment and motivated to grow into expanded responsibilities over time
Nice to have:
Experience with Viewpoint is a plus
familiarity with Microsoft Query is helpful but not required
