Job Description:

The SQL Server Database Administrator role involves managing and optimizing enterprise SQL Server environments, focusing on database performance and query tuning. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in SQL Server administration and be proficient in backup, restore, and security practices. Collaboration with application teams is essential for resolving database-related issues. Preferred skills include experience with high availability configurations and cloud database environments.

Job Responsibility:

  • Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Monitor database performance, analyze slow queries, and implement tuning strategies (indexes, plans, statistics, etc.)
  • Work closely with application teams to review and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data access patterns
  • Perform regular database maintenance including backups, restores, integrity checks, and patching
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery configurations (AlwaysOn Availability Groups, clustering, replication)
  • Implement and maintain automation for SQL Server maintenance tasks where appropriate
  • Assist in diagnosing application performance issues that originate within the database layer
  • Participate in a rotational weekend/on-call schedule to support production releases and critical issues

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar database engineering role
  • Strong proficiency with SQL Server administration, including backups, restores, security, and patching
  • Experience with query tuning, index optimization, execution plans, and performance troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of database schema design, relational data modeling, and stored procedure development
  • Experience supporting enterprise application teams and resolving database related issues
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, DMVs, or third party performance tools
  • Ability to script and automate tasks (PowerShell preferred)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn, clustering, or other HA/DR technologies
  • Knowledge of cloud or containerized database environments (Azure SQL, SQL Server on containers)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes for database changes
  • Understanding of ETL processes and integration tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory)
  • Certifications such as MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management & Analytics, or Azure SQL certifications
