We are looking for an enthusiastic and resilient Sports Mentor to support young people within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school setting in Bristol. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about using sport, physical activity and teamwork as a tool to engage students who may struggle in a traditional classroom environment. You will help young people build confidence, improve behaviour, and develop essential life skills through structured physical activities and mentoring. The provision offers a supportive, therapeutic and structured environment for students who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. A key part of this role includes outreach work, meaning you will support students both on-site and in the wider community, using sport and activity-based interventions to re-engage them in education.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and deliver sports sessions, physical activities and enrichment opportunities
Use sport as a tool to promote teamwork, resilience, confidence and self-discipline
Encourage participation and help students develop a positive connection with physical activity
Adapt sessions to meet a range of abilities and behavioural needs
Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring through both classroom and activity-based settings
Build strong relationships to improve engagement, behaviour and wellbeing
Act as a positive role model, promoting healthy lifestyles and positive choices
Support students in managing emotions and behaviour in a safe and constructive way
Support the implementation of individual behaviour and support plans
Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using calm, consistent approaches
Use physical activity as a strategy to support emotional regulation and focus
Track and report on student progress and engagement
Deliver outreach sessions in community settings, alternative provisions or schools
Travel regularly to provide sport-based mentoring and engagement off-site
Support students with reintegration and maintaining placements
Accompany students to sports activities, trips and external opportunities
Work with families and external professionals to ensure consistent support
Requirements:
Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
Has a strong interest or background in sport, coaching or physical activity
Is confident managing challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
Builds positive relationships quickly and effectively
Is energetic, proactive and passionate about making a difference
A full UK driving licence is essential
