Our client is a growing and highly respected Managing General Agent (MGA) specializing in niche commercial insurance solutions across Canada and international markets. Due to continued growth within their specialty programs division, they are seeking an Underwriter to support their Sports, Fitness, Entertainment, and Events portfolio. Job Responsibility
Underwrite and manage a portfolio of small to mid-sized commercial property and casualty risks
Evaluate and quote new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy changes
Analyze risk exposures and make underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels
Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with broker partners
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key stakeholders
Support profitable portfolio growth through sound underwriting practices
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members when appropriate
Assist with the development and enhancement of underwriting guidelines, processes, and workflows
Collaborate with operations, claims, and leadership teams to ensure exceptional broker and client experiences
Represent the organization at broker meetings, industry events, and networking functions as required
Requirements
Minimum 3 years of Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriting experience preferred
Experience within specialty programs, entertainment, sports, fitness, hospitality, or event-related risks is considered an asset
CIP designation completed or currently in progress is preferred
RIBO license or willingness to obtain one is considered an asset
Familiarity with domestic insurance markets and Lloyd's of London placements is an asset
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Nice to have
Experience within specialty programs, entertainment, sports, fitness, hospitality, or event-related risks is considered an asset
