Job Description:

Rotorua Lakes Council is looking for a Sports Field Specialist (Cricket) to help care for our parks, reserves, and sports fields so they remain safe, welcoming, and ready for everyone to enjoy. Your work will help keep our fields in top condition for local clubs, schools, and community events.

Job Responsibility:

  • Day‑to‑day preparation & maintenance of cricket wickets and other sports turf areas
  • Mowing, line marking, renovation work, fertilising, chemical application and other general turf maintenance duties
  • Prepare fields for scheduled sports games
  • Undertake renovation work when needed
  • Operate a range of equipment, including ride‑on mowers, tractors, line markers, and other specialist turf‑care machinery
  • Ensure equipment is used safely and maintained to a high standard
  • Support the wider grounds team with general maintenance such as planting, weeding, pruning, and caring for public spaces and amenities
  • Represent Council positively when interacting with the public
  • Follow all health and safety procedures

Requirements:

  • Experience in turf or sports field maintenance
  • Practical skills in equipment operation and general horticulture
  • Full driver’s licence
  • Machinery or growsafe endorsements are helpful
  • Certificate in Turf Management or Horticulture is an advantage
  • Reliable, adaptable, a strong team player
  • Enjoys working outdoors in a hands‑on environment

Nice to have:

  • Appreciation for Māori values, te reo, and tikanga Māori
