Job Description:

GSL Education are hiring an experienced Sports Coach (with SEMH experience) to work in a welcoming school in Birmingham, supporting students through structured physical activities in a nurturing and well-managed environment. As a Sports Coach, you will use sport as a positive tool to engage students, promote teamwork, and help them develop confidence, resilience, and self-regulation skills. The client school is known for its strong academic ethos and inclusive learning culture. It provides a well-structured curriculum, modern facilities and a collaborative working environment where staff feel valued and supported. The school promotes high expectations, positive behaviour and continuous professional development, helping every member of staff to grow and succeed.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plan and deliver structured sports sessions tailored to students with SEMH needs
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and participation
  • Promote emotional regulation, teamwork, and respectful behaviour through sport
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment at all times
  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support individual student plans

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Sports Coach with SEMH students is essential
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection
