Job Description

Speech Language Pathologist II, Part Time, Pediatrics position at Lexington Medical Center. Part of Advocate Health, providing care in a pediatric setting. The role involves evaluation, treatment, education, and training related to communicative or swallowing disorders.

Job Responsibility

  • Performs comprehensive professional evaluation of patients of all ages referred for differential diagnosis of communicative or swallowing disorders
  • Ensures patient and/or family education regarding communication or swallowing deficits and treatment options
  • Plans and conducts treatment programs for patients with speech, language, voice and/or swallowing impairments
  • Provides and participates in in-service education and training of speech pathology interns and fellows, medical students/residents, and allied medical personnel
  • Continuously seeks to improve patient care services and evaluates opportunities to develop new services
  • Evaluates options for augmentative/alternative communication and recommends and/or fits appropriate devices or prostheses to meet patient needs
  • Ensures that age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided
  • Ensures the ongoing assessment, maintenance, and continual improvement of staff competence related to age-specific needs of patients
  • Adequate performance on financial/budget expectations
  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment

Requirements

  • Current license in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association
  • Candidate must have SLP-CCC

  • Satisfactorily completes and maintains all initial and ongoing clinical competency requirements for patient groups and areas served
  • Appropriately selects, administers, and interprets diagnostic tools, with consideration of patient developmental level, current status, premorbid function, and reason for referral, and in accordance to WFBH protocols and procedures
  • Including, but not limited to, Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Modified Barium Swallow Evaluations (MBS), Passy-Muir Valve (PMV) evaluations, and knowledge of multiple standardized and non-standardized assessments of communication and cognitive-linguistics
  • Pending primary work areas, includes alaryngeal speech evaluations
