To plan, develop and deliver effective, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy services across Schools/Settings and the Youth Justice Service (YJS). The postholder will also support the needs of private clients within the local area, with reasonable travel required, typically up to one hour depending on service need. The role involves providing high-quality input for children and young people with a range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), including identifying and addressing communication needs.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct specialist assessments for children and young people with diverse SLCN
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment programmes, measuring and evaluating outcomes to ensure clinical effectiveness
Provide specialist advice and strategies to support young people within the justice system
Provide guidance on creating communication-friendly environments for parents, carers and professionals
Contribute specialist knowledge to multi-disciplinary teams including Youth Justice Services, teachers and health professionals
Produce detailed and accessible reports including contributions to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and court reports
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in managing conflict and motivating clients and carers
Develop and deliver specialist training to Youth Justice Service staff, teachers and parents to increase awareness of speech, language and communication needs
Provide supervision, mentorship and training to assistants, newly qualified practitioners and students where appropriate
Support the development of Chatterbug by representing the organisation locally and nationally
Gather statistical data and contribute to service research when required
Participate in clinical governance and audit projects
Maintain knowledge of safeguarding procedures, SEN policies and relevant legal frameworks
Maintain a professional portfolio and participate in appraisal and performance review processes
Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development
Adhere to professional and clinical guidelines set by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice in Speech and Language Therapy
Requirements:
Qualified Speech and Language Therapist
Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
Experience working with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs
Experience working with education partners and multidisciplinary teams
Experience supporting Speech and Language Therapy Assistants
Experience contributing to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications
Knowledge of education processes and policies
Knowledge of NICE guidelines and therapeutic interventions for Speech and Language Therapy
Strong report writing skills
Confident IT user
Ability to build strong relationships with professionals, parents and carers
Valid driving licence
Access to own vehicle
Ability to travel across the local geographical area
Ability to work flexibly in line with service needs
Nice to have:
