This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive, welcoming and innovative team. We have a 9-month fixed term contract available, working 23.25 hours per week, for a Speech and Language Therapist, across both the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Community Team and Community Stroke team based in Nottingham city. The service provides high quality, evidence based, swallowing and communication assessments, rehabilitation and interventions, for adults with a range of disorders such as stroke, dementias, Parkinson's, FND, long-covid, respiratory and adults who stammer. Patients are seen at home, in clinics, care homes, and in therapeutic groups including adult dysfluency, post stroke total communication skills, and a Parkinson's voice maintenance group. We also offer intensive rehabilitation programmes where appropriate, and training to care home staff and other professionals. There are many opportunities for training and development including regular one-to-one supervision, shadowing, monthly SLT clinical meetings, and potential specialist training in clinical interventions such as Speak OUT and dysphagia rehabilitation. The successful applicant will need to be flexible, innovative, organised and keen to learn for the benefit of your patients.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver Speech and Language Therapy care in a range of community environments to adults over 18 with communication and swallowing difficulties
Work as a specialised clinician, acting as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of adults with communication, cognitive and/or swallowing disorders
Work with the adult services team contributing to the planning, developing and delivering an effective and efficient service, including auditing practice
Communicate highly complex and sensitive clinical information to clients, carers, and families
Make differential diagnosis using complex information
Develop and deliver a range of training packages
Manage and prioritise a specialist caseload independently
Use specialist knowledge to make sound clinical decisions/judgements
Plan and deliver training for other professionals
Organise appointments and book clinics
Maintain client-based record/notes and input to electronic clinical information systems
Implement departmental plans and policies
Contribute to interagency/multi-disciplinary team building
Take an active role in maintaining own competency to practice through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities
Maintain and update clinical skills as agreed in an annual Performance Review and Development (PRD)
Day-to-day supervision and direction for Speech and Language Therapy Admin, band 5 SLTs and Assistant Practitioners
Involved in the training of less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, students, outside agencies and parents/carers
Provide advice in specialist area to more junior colleagues
Offer clinical supervision for junior members of staff
Relevant post-graduate experience working autonomously in assessing and managing clients with acquired swallowing and communication disorders, such as stroke
Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
Experience of goal setting
Speech & Language therapy Degree Qualification
Health and Care professions council licence to practice
Registered member of RCSLT
Post graduate Dysphagia training
Evidence of successful completion of short courses related to client group
Well established knowledge of assessment tools and treatment for specialist group
Well established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group)
Specialist skills in dysphagia
Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills
Good IT and presentation skills both written and verbal
Demonstrates effective ability to prioritise a large caseload
Demonstrates the ability to work well in a team and to see the benefits of teamwork
Knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group)
Understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit
Knowledge of standards of record keeping

Nice to have:
