An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Speciality Doctors and ST4+ level Emergency Medicine clinicians to join a dynamic and expanding Emergency Medicine team in North West England. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a Senior Decision Maker (SDM) rota alongside Higher Specialist Trainees and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioners, delivering high-quality emergency care across a broad and diverse patient population. The successful candidate will be actively involved in clinical leadership, departmental management, quality improvement, governance, teaching, and workforce development while gaining exposure to a varied case mix including major trauma, acute illness, paediatrics, and emergency presentations.
Job Responsibility
Participate in the initial assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients attending the Emergency Department
Independently manage the department overnight as an experienced ST4+ clinician, ensuring safe and effective patient care
Assess and manage critically ill and injured patients requiring resuscitation and emergency interventions
Provide care for adult and paediatric emergency presentations
Manage complex cases, major trauma, acute medical emergencies, and minor injuries
Support Consultants and Senior Nursing staff in coordinating clinical activity on the shop floor
Ensure timely assessment and treatment of patients while maintaining patient flow through the department
Supervise junior doctors, clinical fellows, advanced practitioners, medical students, and nursing staff
Participate in observation ward rounds within the Emergency Department
Review radiology and pathology results and undertake associated administrative responsibilities
Contribute to achieving national quality indicators and performance targets
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement projects
Maintain professional standards in accordance with GMC guidance and Trust policies
Participate in departmental teaching, simulation training, and educational activities
Support the development and training of the multidisciplinary workforce
Undertake annual appraisal and continuing professional development activities
Requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Current ALS/ACLS certification
Current ATLS/ETC certification
Current APLS/EPALS certification
Minimum 4 years post-registration experience
Minimum 36 months Emergency Medicine experience
Minimum 12 months NHS experience
Minimum 3 months Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine experience
Experience in Paediatrics, General Paediatrics, or Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Demonstrated completion of Foundation Competencies or equivalent
Excellent clinical decision-making abilities
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and recognise limitations appropriately
Experience teaching and supporting multidisciplinary teams
Commitment to patient safety, governance, and professional development
Nice to have
MRCEM or evidence of progression towards MRCEM/FRCEM
Royal College postgraduate qualification
