An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in General Surgery to join a large and progressive surgical department in the East of England. This post offers the opportunity to work across both elective and emergency general surgery services within a busy teaching environment, supporting high-quality patient care while benefiting from excellent training, mentorship, research, and career development opportunities.
Job Responsibility
Provide middle-grade support across both elective and emergency general surgery services
Participate in the assessment, investigation, and management of surgical patients
Deliver inpatient, outpatient, theatre, endoscopy, and emergency surgical care
Perform ward rounds and support day-to-day management of surgical inpatients
Participate in elective operating lists and emergency surgical procedures according to experience and competence
Contribute to outpatient clinics and endoscopy services
Work closely with consultant surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care
Participate in the department's clinical governance programme, including audit, quality improvement, risk management, and guideline development
Support teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students
Participate in departmental educational activities, morbidity and mortality meetings, and specialist teaching sessions
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with professional and organisational standards.
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Minimum four years of postgraduate medical training
At least two years of experience within General Surgery
Training and experience in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for teaching, training, and service development
Good written and spoken English skills
Ability to present information effectively to colleagues and multidisciplinary audiences
Flexible approach to working hours and service requirements.
Nice to have
Higher degree, such as MD, MS, or PhD
Educational Supervisor training qualification
Previous involvement in service improvement initiatives
Leadership or management training
Experience in research, publications, research governance, or grant applications
Strong presentation and teaching skills.
