Job Description:

Randstad is currently a preferred partner with a reputable Federal Government client. The Specialist Advisor will hold high-level knowledge of Financial Reporting Rules (FRRs) and Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) standards, providing expert technical accounting advice and developing critical assessments on contemporary accounting issues. Responsibilities include technical compliance, stakeholder engagement, audit preparation, and continuous financial improvements. The role is onsite, based in Melbourne, offering an hourly rate plus super.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide strategic support and technical expertise to ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), Financial Reporting Rules (FRRs), and broader Commonwealth accounting guidance
  • Draft and review technical accounting position papers and internal accounting policies
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships including engagement with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO)
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the annual financial statements and audit program
  • Assist in interpreting complex accounting matters and providing tailored advice to stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement in financial governance, reporting quality, and transparency
  • Provide ad-hoc technical accounting and policy advice

Requirements:

  • Australian Citizenship
  • CA/CPA qualified
  • Degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Extensive senior-level experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, and/or auditing
  • Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying AASB standards and Commonwealth financial frameworks
  • Preparing comprehensive accounting policy and position papers
  • Engaging with external auditors
  • Planning and coordinating financial statement preparation and audit processes
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) standards and pronouncements
  • Commonwealth Financial Reporting Rules (FRRs)
  • AUASB auditing standards
  • Public sector financial management practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities
