Minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience in an SEN setting)
Previous experience supporting children with Autism, particularly within a primary school environment
Training in or knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton is highly desirable
A calm, resilient, and proactive approach to behavioral challenges and sensory needs
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build a strong, trusting bond with a child

Job Responsibility

Provide tailored 1:1 support for a student with ASD, focusing on emotional regulation and communication
Implement Now and Next boards and visual schedules to help the student manage transitions throughout the school day
Liaise with the school's SENCO and external therapists to follow and adapt individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Create a calm zone within the classroom to provide a safe space for the student when they become overwhelmed
Assist the class teacher in adapting mainstream lesson materials to ensure they are accessible and engaging for the pupil
