The Portsmouth Integrated Learning Disability Service (PILDS) is recruiting a dynamic, enthusiastic and skilled full-time Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join their innovative multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The service is nationally recognised for its fully integrated approach to health and social care support for adults with a learning disability, rated outstanding in its last two CQC inspections. The successful candidate will work as an autonomous practitioner, managing a varied caseload, assessing, diagnosing, and providing timely management of communication and dysphagia. As a core member of the ILDS, they will work on an array of exciting projects, making a real difference to the local community.
Job Responsibility:
Manage a caseload of adults with learning disabilities with complex communication difficulties and/or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
Develop care plans and provide appropriate intervention using specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements and decision-making
Provide advice to others regarding the management and care of clients with communication and / or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
Play a central advisory role within the multidisciplinary team regarding creative ways to involve service users and other parties in assessment and support
Work on an array of exciting projects, making a real difference to the local community
Co-develop creative initiatives to maximise positive outcomes and clinical excellence
Provide clinical support, as appropriate, and deliver diverse training, guidance and effective SLT solutions
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years postgraduate SLT experience
Postgraduate qualification in dysphagia
Skills and competence to provide a specialist communication and dysphagia service
Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner
Ability to manage a varied caseload, assessing, diagnosing, and providing timely management of communication and dysphagia
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Ability to develop effective working relationships with clients, carers and their families
Ability to contribute to interagency / multi-disciplinary team working
Ability to evaluate outcomes of intervention and demonstrate clinical effectiveness
Ability to manage and prioritise own workload
Ability to be flexible
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies
Ability to contribute to formal and informal training
