We are currently seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant with Braille proficiency to join a vibrant and inclusive primary school in Crawley starting this September. The Role This is a unique opportunity to provide vital 1:1 support for a student with visual impairments. You will play a key role in ensuring they have full access to the curriculum, fostering both their academic progress and their independence within the school community. ... Key Responsibilities: Transcribing classroom materials into Braille and vice versa to ensure lesson accessibility. Providing tailored 1:1 support to help the student navigate the school environment and social interactions. Collaborating closely with the Class Teacher and SENCO to adapt learning resources. Supporting the student's use of specialist equipment and assistive technology. Encouraging emotional resilience and a positive 'can-do' attitude toward learning. The Ideal Candidate Braille Proficiency: You must have a working knowledge of Braille (UEB) to support a primary-aged student effectively. SEN Experience: Previous experience working with children with Visual Impairments (VI) or complex needs is highly desirable. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with the student, staff, and parents.
