Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant (Braille) | Crawley. Location: Crawley, West Sussex. Start Date: September 2026. Contract: Permanent, Full-Time. Salary: Competitive (Based on experience). Are you an expert in UEB Braille looking for a permanent career move in West Sussex? We are seeking a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly-regarded primary school in Crawley. This is a rare, long-term opportunity to make a measurable impact on a student's educational journey. The Role: 1:1 Visual Impairment Support. In this specialist role, you will provide vital 1:1 support for a primary-aged student with visual impairments. You won't just be an assistant; you will be the bridge between the curriculum and the student, ensuring full inclusively and independence.

Job Responsibility:

  • Braille transcription: accurately transcribing classroom materials into Unified English Braille (UEB) and vice versa
  • curriculum access: adapting lesson plans in real-time alongside the Class Teacher and SENCO
  • assistive technology: supporting the student with specialist VI equipment and software
  • holistic development: fostering social integration and emotional resilience within the school environment

Requirements:

  • Braille proficiency (UEB)
  • VI experience: previous experience supporting children with Visual Impairments or complex SEN is essential
  • stability: committed to providing long-term consistency
  • location: ideally based in or able to commute easily to Crawley/West Sussex
