Requirements

Educated to degree level (2:1 or above only)
Hold a teaching qualification
For those working with students with Specific Learning Difficulties, a recognised specialist Students with SpLD qualification is required
Evidence of holding a full or associate professional membership at an SpLD body (PATOSS, BDA, ADSHE/PASSHE or Dyslexia Guild)
Substantial experience of working with students with disabilities and/or specific learning difficulties on a one to one basis
In depth understanding of the effects of specific learning difficulties on language and learning in an HE context
In depth knowledge of how other disabilities affect particular areas of learning
Awareness of the strengths which students with specific learning difficulties can bring to a learning situation
Skills to help students to make use of these strengths and overcome barriers to learning
Must be able to receive emails and phone calls when on location

Job Responsibility

Address issues which some students might have in acquiring, recalling and retaining information in written and spoken language
Address the range of memory, organisational, attention and numeracy difficulties that students with specific learning difficulties often face when working in an HE context
Develop students’ skills for autonomy in the learning environment
Deliver support where clear goals and timescales are of paramount importance
Provide support tailored to a student’s individual needs
Provide ongoing support throughout a student's course

Able to communicate fluently/fluidly with individuals that are visually impaired
Provide study skills support on a one to one basis
Must possess one of the following qualifications: Advisory Teacher for Students with Vision Impairments, Advisory Teacher for Students with MultiSensory Impairments, PGCE* with additional qualification in a relevant subject, Other teaching qualifications at Level 4 and above (Certificate HE Teaching Toolkit, PGCTLHE, Diploma in Education & Training (DET), CTLLS, DTLLS), or QTS
Currently self-employed, or in the process of registering as a self-employed professional
Able to receive emails and phone calls when on location
Most experienced and qualified support workers

Must possess one of the following qualifications: Advisory Teacher for Deaf Students, Advisory Teacher for Students with MultiSensory Impairments, PGCE* and Registered Qualified BSL Interpreter, PGCE* plus specialist qualification in relevant subject (e.g., Deaf Studies, English, Linguistics, Deaf literacy specialist qualification, Deaf Awareness qualification)
