Job Description:

Randstad Student Support is seeking Specialist Mentors to assist autistic students at the University of Bedfordshire. The role involves providing one-on-one support, introducing strategies to overcome academic and personal barriers, as well as managing stress and organisational skills.

Job Responsibility:

Support students in understanding what is required of them academically
Develop time management and organisational skills
Breaking down tasks to meet deadlines
Achieve an appropriate balance in study and daily living
Manage anxiety, stress or low mood
Prepare for new experiences

Requirements:

Qualified to undergraduate degree level (level 6 as minimum)
Have taken extensive training in adult autism
Completed 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non medical helper package) OR The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies

Nice to have:

Experience of working with autistic clients
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths whilst maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
Punctuality and reliability
Good organisational skills
Ability to manage a caseload of students
