Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Horsham, supporting both primary and secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a real difference within a supportive and structured environment. You will be working with pupils who may present challenging behaviour, including both verbal and physical behaviours, so the school are looking for someone who is calm, patient and confident in their approach, with previous experience working within a school setting being essential. The role will begin through Pink Tile, with opportunities for temp to perm positions for the right candidate. The school would like candidates to attend a trial day before the end of term.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting primary and secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assisting with classroom learning and structured daily routines
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and independence
  • Responding to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent and proactive manner
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider support team

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a school setting is essential
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour (verbal and/or physical)
  • Patient, calm and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
