This is a developmental role and an opportunity for a RGN to progress into a specialist nursing environment. The Post holder will be jointly responsible for the nursing management of patients requiring Stoma Care, in the Hospital/Community settings and Outpatient clinic. You will assist in the day-to-day management of the stoma care service and provide the best possible service to patients and their carers. Following relevant training and assessment the post holder will be able to provide patient education and counselling, and specialist treatment and advice for stoma patients and/or those who care for them.
Job Responsibility:
Jointly responsible for the nursing management of patients requiring Stoma Care, in the Hospital/Community settings and Outpatient clinic
Assist in the day-to-day management of the stoma care service
Provide the best possible service to patients and their carers
Provide patient education and counselling, and specialist treatment and advice for stoma patients and/or those who care for them
Have continuing responsibility and accountability within their team in the delivery of high quality, evidence based nursing care
Be a source of clinical expertise, provide professional advice, and act as a specialist nursing resource
Share information with other Health care professionals facilitating best practice
Work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of effective pathways of care for patients and the delivery of corporate objectives
Demonstrate continuing professional development
Promote evidence based clinical practice and assist the Specialist Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Stoma Care in performance improvement within the specialty
Maintain own clinical and professional development in Nursing and participate in performance review annually
Network with other professional groups facilitating best practice
Work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies
Requirements:
Registered General Nurse
ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing
Evidence of continuous professional development
Demonstrable relevant post registration experience in the speciality of colorectal surgery
Evidence of teaching experience and skills
Nice to have:
Degree in nursing or working towards
Level 6 accredited stoma course
Demonstrate a sound knowledge regarding the colorectal procedures resulting in stoma formation
