The Special Purpose Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic operates, repairs, maintains, and function tests heavy equipment such 25K aircraft cargo loader, 60K aircraft cargo loader, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, scrapers, motor graders, skid steers, backhoe, dump trucks and various flightline support vehicles and associated equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Conducts Mobile Maintenance duties
Replace and repair hydraulic lines, pneumatic equipment, air conditioning systems, wheels/tires, wipers, and light bulbs
Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc
Replace and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins, seals, and bearings
Performs operator care such washing, vacuuming, and cleaning
Follow manufacturer guidelines on recommended services and maintenance on vehicles
Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment
promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Collects vehicle and equipment data
conducts 100% inventory annually
Engage with customers and mission partners on maintenance status weekly
Coordinate parts and services with vendors daily
Inputs data and performs work order processing in computerized maintenance management system daily (i.e. MAXIMO and DPAS)
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Licensed or trained to operate applicable items of heavy equipment
Must be experienced in the repair of major systems
Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance
Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment
Practical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratio
Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer
Must be qualified to work on MHE, 25K, & 60K Aircraft Cargo Loaders
Must be able to speak, read and write English
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust U.S. Government Clearance
U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Completed training in Vehicle Maintenance or related field from military technical school or an accredited technical school/college/university
Certificate of training in 60K-loader maintenance from the AF Education and Training Command (AETC) in-house or Mobile Training Team (MTT) formal course taught by Detachment 1, 345th Training Squadron schoolhouse at Port Hueneme CA, or alternative equivalent civilian training
2 years’ experience maintaining special purpose-type vehicles
Nice to have:
Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience
Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), OSHA, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), military regulations standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements
