Join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit in Littlehampton supporting primary and secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The setting provides a structured, safe, and nurturing environment for pupils who have struggled to access mainstream education. With a strong focus on emotional regulation, behaviour support, and personalised learning, the aim is to help students re-engage with education and rebuild confidence. Through small group learning, consistent routines, and a highly supportive staff team, pupils are encouraged to develop resilience, improve social skills, and achieve meaningful educational outcomes.
Job Responsibility
Provide consistent support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and engage positively in learning
Use effective strategies to support positive behaviour, de-escalate situations, and promote emotional regulation
Work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored learning approaches and maintain engagement
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing and educational progress
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people in education, PRU, alternative provision, youth work, care, or similar SEMH-focused environments
GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) are required
Calm, patient, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable young people with complex needs
Strong communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way
Strong understanding of safeguarding and commitment to maintaining a safe, structured learning environment
