Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to join a vibrant primary special school community in Worthing. The school supports 222 incredible pupils aged 4-11, all of whom have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). We pride ourselves on a highly personalised approach, ensuring every child-regardless of their starting point-is challenged, motivated, and equipped for the future.

Job Responsibility

  • Help pupils overcome barriers across four key areas: Cognition and Learning
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Sensory and Physical Development
  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Work alongside teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists

  • Specialist In-Class Support: Provide high-quality one-to-one or small-group interventions within mainstream classes, supporting students with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech and Language needs, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges
  • Promote Inclusion and Independence: Encourage students to engage fully with their peers and the curriculum, fostering self-esteem, confidence, and crucial independent learning skills
  • Behaviour Management: Utilise positive and proactive strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, maintaining a safe, purposeful, and nurturing learning environment
  • Collaboration and Reporting: Monitor and accurately record student progress, providing detailed and regular feedback to the SENCo, class teachers, and external agencies
  • Pastoral and Physical Care: Provide general care, support pupils with their emotional well-being, and directly assist with personal care (including toileting, changing, and feeding) and mobility where required (full training provided)
