Job Description

We are a vibrant primary special school in West Sussex catering to pupils (aged 4-11) with complex learning needs. Every child at our school has an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), and we pride ourselves on providing a highly personalised curriculum that meets them exactly where they are. We don't just teach; we celebrate achievement across the four key areas of need: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Sensory and Physical Development, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH). We are looking for passionate, resilient, and understanding SEN Teaching Assistants to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will work alongside teachers, therapists, and nurses to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting pupils in small groups tailored to their social and learning needs
  • Implementing personalised learning plans to keep pupils challenged and motivated
  • Assisting with the use of our specialist resources
  • Providing a safe, nurturing environment where every small victory is celebrated

Requirements

  • Patient & Empathetic: You understand that "behaviour is communication."
  • Adaptive: You can pivot your approach based on a child's immediate sensory or emotional needs
  • Collaborative: You enjoy working with speech therapists, physios, and occupational therapists
  • Dedicated: You have a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of children with complex needs

  • skills: ability to track progression in attainment, background in youth work, behaviour management, building relationships, classroom management, communication, de-escalation techniques, empathy, experience in administering medication, experience in managing challenging behaviour, experience with autism spectrum disorders, experience with learning difficulties, experience with social emotional mental health, inclusiveness, manual handling, marking, mentor experience, personal care experience, planning, resilience, restraint training, speech and language therapy experience
  • qualifications: CACHE level 1 or 2, CACHE level 2 or 3, early childhood studies degree, health and social care experience, health and social care qualifications (NVQ), HLTA, NVQ level 2, NVQ level 3, NVQ level 4
  • education: high school, college, university

  • Collaboration: Monitor progress and provide detailed feedback to teachers, the SENCo, and external agencies like Educational Psychologists
  • Pastoral Care: Support emotional well-being and assist with personal care or mobility where required (full training provided)
