GENERAL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher in a special class setting. This classroom serves neurodivergent learners, including students with autism and other learning differences. The teacher will create meaningful learning experiences through empowering every student utilizing accessible instruction and a collaborative, student-first approach. The program provides a structured and supportive educational environment for students with diverse learning needs, including social-emotional differences, sensory/processing needs, and expressive or receptive communication challenges. This role emphasizes not only direct instruction for our students but also leadership in guiding a team of teaching assistants who support individualized student learning. The ideal candidate is skilled in fostering teamwork, providing guidance to instructional staff, and ensuring all classroom supports work together to maximize student engagement and success.
Job Responsibility:
Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that prioritize student strengths, engagement, and measurable growth
Deliver instruction aligned with NYS Standards in accessible and differentiated ways to meet diverse learning needs
Lead and guide teaching assistants in supporting instruction, classroom management, and individualized student supports
Provide direction and professional modeling to ensure instructional strategies are consistently and effectively implemented
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive educational services and student-centered solutions
Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to maximize learning outcomes and skill development
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages participation, growth, and student confidence
Communicate regularly with families to share progress, celebrate successes, and collaborate on strategies that support learning.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's degree preferred)
New York State certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6 or All Grades)
Experience teaching and supporting neurodivergent learners in elementary settings
Strong knowledge of special education best practices and individualized instruction
Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
Commitment to student growth and inclusive, student-centered education.
