Our forward-thinking special educational needs (SEN) school is seeking a dedicated Special Education Support Specialist to join our team. We're committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can reach their full potential.

Job Responsibility:

  • Collaborate on Individualised Plans: Work with a team of professionals to develop and implement learning plans tailored to each child
  • Facilitate Holistic Growth: Support academic, emotional, and social development, helping students build confidence and independence
  • Implement Adaptive Strategies: Use a variety of tools and techniques to create a supportive learning environment
  • Manage Behaviour with Empathy: Address challenging behaviours calmly and respectfully, while modeling positive conduct
  • Ensure Safety and Well-being: Maintain a structured and safe environment through vigilant supervision
  • Engage in Professional Development: Continuously refine your skills in behaviour management and special education practices

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a year of experience working with children in an educational or care setting, with a focus on SEMH, ASC, or similar needs
  • Relevant certifications such as an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Working with Children, or equivalent training
  • A proven ability to manage challenging behaviours effectively while fostering a positive atmosphere
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and empathetically with students, parents, and colleagues
  • The ability to tailor your support to the unique needs of each child
  • Basic ICT skills for documentation and communication

Nice to have:

Additional training in areas like First Aid, Child Protection, or Team Teach

  • Demonstrates current, detailed, accurate knowledge of concepts tested by the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in nursing practice to provide academic support
  • Assists in the creation of Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshops
  • Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, and first-class service
  • Communicates and documents (reporting) students’ academic and co-curricular progress toward achievement of student and program learning outcomes to academic leadership (i.e., retention committee)
  • Assists in developing and implementing detailed clinically based scenarios for the simulated learning experiences, including use of high-fidelity patient simulators
  • Coordinates and supervises lab experiences to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet course objectives
