Bluecadet is an Emmy-winning, experience design agency partnering with mission-driven institutions to create transformative environments, digital experiences, and storytelling platforms. We blend spatial design, technology, and narrative to bring ambitious ideas to life for museums, cultural institutions, nonprofits, and forward-thinking brands. Our partners include MoMA, NASA, The Smithsonian, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We are looking for a Freelance Spatial Designer to join our growing experiential design team. You’ll work at the intersection of architecture, interactivity, and storytelling—crafting meaningful physical environments that integrate media, technology, and narrative. You will collaborate closely with producers, developers, content strategists, and visual designers to bring spaces to life from concept through execution. This is a dynamic role ideal for a creative problem-solver who enjoys both big-picture thinking and hands-on making. You should be excited by spatial storytelling, passionate about shaping visitor journeys, and comfortable working across disciplines and phases—from ideation and prototyping to coordination with fabricators and AV teams.
Job Responsibility:
Contribute to the concepting and design of interactive, content-rich environments
Translate abstract ideas into compelling 2D and 3D visualizations, plans, and models
Create presentation-ready renderings, diagrams, and design documentation
Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., content, tech, and visual design) and external partners (e.g., AV consultants, fabricators)
Assist in prototyping and user testing to iterate spatial concepts
Contribute to storytelling through layout, sequencing, and integration of digital and physical elements
Participate in internal and client-facing presentations
Support documentation for production and fabrication
Requirements:
3–5 years of relevant experience in architecture, exhibition design, environmental design, or theatrical design
Strong proficiency in Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite (VRay, Grasshopper, and/or Revit a plus)
Experience with spatial storytelling and interpretation in visitor-centric environments
Familiarity with interactive technologies, AV integration, or digital fabrication processes
Strong visualization skills across mediums: sketches, diagrams, renderings, and physical models
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
A maker mindset with attention to detail and craftsmanship
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a spatial design-related field
Nice to have:
Experience with Unity or Unreal Engine
Understanding of lighting and sound design for immersive environments
Familiarity with building codes, ADA, and fabrication coordination
Interest in the intersection of AR/XR and physical space
