We have an exciting opportunity for a Spacecraft Breakup and Demise Engineer to join the JETSII Contract! This new position is a unique position to perform analysis on spacecraft breakup and demise upon reentry.
Job Responsibility:
Perform high-fidelity, progressive spacecraft breakup and demise analysis to develop debris footprints and identify debris items that survive reentry
Develop state-of-the-art software to model progressive spacecraft breakup, including models of spacecraft structural and thermal failure modes and changing vehicle mass and aerodynamic properties as breakup progresses
Collaborate with agency program and commercial partners to ensure that new spacecraft designs properly account for demise and that currently operational spacecraft are disposed of safely
Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
BS with at least 15 years of experience
Experience with spacecraft breakup and demise analysis
Experience with 6-DOF and multi-body flight mechanics simulations
Experience with programming in FORTRAN
Excellent communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills to enable successful performance in a collaborative environment
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at meetings
Experience with Microsoft Office products
Nice to have:
PhD in Aerospace Engineering and twenty (20) years of related experience
Proficiency in software development using programming languages such as FORTRAN, Python, C++, MATLAB, or Julia
Experience with product delivery and management
Experience with source code management tools such as Git/GitLab and continuous integration systems such as Gitlab
