Job Responsibility:
Performs diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures
Responsible for providing a wide range of highly technical diagnostic exams including but not limited to abdominal, small parts, GYN, abdominal and peripheral vascular, portable exams and interventional procedures
Completes training and receives regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior sonographer
Receives orientation to the Department's infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines
Is responsible for scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the US department with appropriate post US instructions
Performs ultrasound imaging and therapy in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization
Adjusts equipment controls as needed to produce high quality images and prepares/presents them, with other pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation
Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
Prepares room and patient specific to exam to be performed
Uses an established work pattern to work efficiently and safely within an ultrasound environment
Reviews patient history and physician's orders
Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation
Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and ensuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly
Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
Adheres to safety policies
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography required
Associate's degree and certificate in diagnostic medical sonography required
Registered or registry eligible by the ARDMS upon hire required
Non-registered sonographers must obtain ARDMS Abdominal and OB/GYN certifications within 1 year
