Assists in performing a variety of technical procedures in the application of high frequency ultrasound waves to patients for diagnostic purposes. Uses highly skilled techniques to assist in clinical decision making, with guidance from senior Sonographers while working towards obtaining sound knowledge of cardiology, cardiovascular hemodynamics, doppler physics/instrumentation, cardiac and vascular ultrasound technologies.
Job Responsibility:
Assists with routine and specialized echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal and contrast exams, with the goal of becoming independently capable of performing complete exams
Obtains pertinent patient medical history to optimize the exam for appropriateness
Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound studies in accordance with universal precautions to insure patient safety per approved protocols, policies and procedures
Obtains vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight
Works with more senior sonographer to perform the necessary cardiac measurements to generate preliminary findings and image acquisition/storage to support the interpreting physician of the finalized diagnostic report
Maintains active registry status in adult cardiac sonography (RDCS/RCS) through continuing professional educational credits
Keeps lab and exam rooms in clean, working order, including cleaning ultrasound equipment and transducers according to lab policy
Requirements:
Associate's degree required
2 years of experience in cardiac imaging or related field or successful completion of accredited cardiac echo sonographer training program required or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Working knowledge of cardiology, cardiovascular hemodynamics, doppler physics/instrumentation, cardiac and vascular ultrasound technologies required
