Job Description:

The Sommelier is responsible for wine service, recommendations, and managing the wine offerings, including maintaining the wine list, conducting tastings, and training staff. The role requires adherence to safety, customer service, and quality standards.

Job Responsibility:

Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne bottles
Answer guest questions about wines
Update and maintain wine list and MICROS system
Suggest wine pairings for menu items
Attend wine tastings and work with vendors
Request new wines and products
Design and implement wine promotions
Monitor inventory of wine cellar, equipment, and glassware
Train and educate server and bartender staff
Conduct vintage and BIN number checks
Ensure adherence to quality standards
Follow company policies and safety standards.

Requirements:

Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree
At least 2 years of related work experience
Clear and professional communication
Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods
Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds
Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
Ability to move through narrow or uneven surfaces
Knowledge of wine origins, vintages, and styles
Familiarity with state and local laws for serving alcohol responsibly
Ability to train and educate staff.

Nice to have:

Experience with maintaining wine lists and MICROS systems
Knowledge of wine promotions and incentive programs
Ability to conduct staff wine tastings
Familiarity with inventory replenishment processes.
