Job Description

The Sommelier shares a passion for excellence and provides expert knowledge of wine and creates distinctive experience.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepares and serves a selection of wines from the menu while ensuring proper pouring and decanting
  • Provides expert knowledge of wine and spirits and ensures the quality of all food or beverage items, ingredients, and preparation methods
  • Cleans wines service areas during service hours
  • Maintains an attentive and proactive approach when it comes to offering a second round and ascertaining satisfaction with the wine/beverage already served
  • Ensures that all wines are served at the correct temperatures
  • Controls the wine service according to the daily schedule
  • Takes guest reservations when necessary
  • Plates and prepares food items when necessary
  • Has detailed knowledge of all menu items, whether it be food or beverages
  • Anticipates the needs of guests, responds accordingly to guest inquiries or problems, and recognizes regular guests by name and utilizes the guest’s name consistently
  • Has the ability to provide recognition, promote good public relations, and handle complaints, concerns or special requests for guests, clients, and group contacts
  • Communicates with employees and managers to ensure operational needs are met
  • Remains calm and alert, especially during emergency situations, heavy hotel activity
  • Supports the entire Food and Beverage operation, including working in other areas if necessary
  • Communicates with guests and employees using a positive and clear speaking voice
  • Listens to understand requests, responds with appropriate actions, and provides accurate information
  • Complies with Four Seasons’ Category One and Category Two Work Rules and Standards of Conduct as set forth in EmPact
  • Works harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • One to two years of previous experience as Sommelier in Food & Beverage outlet
  • Requires ability to operate computer equipment and other food & beverage computer systems
  • Requires reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Must already possess valid work authorization in South Korea
