The Solid Waste Inspector performs a variety of technical, field inspection, and operational duties to ensure compliance with sanitation and recycling rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for the daily delivery and exchange of residential trash and recycling containers, investigating and resolving citizen complaints, assisting with account discrepancies, and providing customer service and public outreach.
Job Responsibility:

Identifies routes with high levels of recycling contamination and assists with educational materials and outreach to reduce contamination
Assists the immediate supervisor with Federal, State and Local environmental compliance through recordkeeping
Assists in conducting waste audits and drafting public education correspondence
Monitors and documents field inspection activities
issues educational notices and manages violations electronically
Tags delinquent accounts and removes containers for non-payment
Participates in public outreach programs, prepares written reports, and assists at community events
Provides solid waste collection support using sanitation vehicles
performs routine vehicle/equipment maintenance
Requirements:
Knowledge of sanitation operations, waste regulations, and technical inspection work typically obtained through one year of advanced study or training past high school equivalency
Minimum one year experience in a related field
Valid Driver's License
Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
SWANA certification required within 12 months of hire
Ability to read written instructions, manuals, letters, and machine equipment readings, measurements, or gauges
Ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Ability to draft letters and memorandums
Capable of utilizing a smart phone and computer to perform daily data entry
Able to push/pull and lift up to 75 lbs
Capable of climbing in and out of vehicles, reaching, stooping and crouching several times a day
Able to work overtime or work an irregular schedule when requested
Able to communicate clearly with all residents and possess excellent customer service ethics
Be able to provide bulk collections, county variance inspections, operate heavy equipment and be able to maintain a Class B CDL
Be able to perform safety inspections on vehicles in accordance to Federal CDL guidelines and perform preventative maintenance on all sanitation equipment
Nice to have:
General knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word, knowledge of Access is a plus)
