Job Description

This role involves managing and progressing a specialist caseload of pain‑related injuries, ensuring each case is handled with care, expertise, and efficiency. You will work collaboratively under the Serious Injury Guide and Rehabilitation Code where appropriate, contributing to early road‑mapping discussions and fostering a cooperative approach with all parties. A key part of the role is delivering exceptional client care, maintaining high standards of communication, and consistently striving for the best possible outcomes. You will also support the development of apprentices and paralegals within the team, helping to build capability and confidence. The position requires strong drafting skills, excellent time management, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure, all while ensuring cases progress in line with KPIs.

Job Responsibility

  • Proactively manage a caseload of MOJ and Intermediate Track motor claims, ensuring all relevant heads of loss are fully considered to maximise damages for clients
  • Work towards targets relating to profit costs, case progression, settlements, and positive client feedback
  • Carry out domiciliary visits where required
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding in all client interactions, identifying and recording any vulnerabilities from the outset
  • Clearly document how client vulnerabilities impact the support provided, and escalate any capacity concerns to your manager promptly
  • Liaise with panel medical experts and maintain regular risk assessment throughout the life of each case, escalating any concerns around prospects of success
  • Conduct due diligence at key stages and ensure clients are fully briefed regarding fraud and fundamental dishonesty risks
  • Minimise WIP and disbursement write‑offs, completing fee remission forms where appropriate and issuing proceedings in good time
  • Instruct Counsel, attend conferences and hearings as needed, and ensure clear instructions are documented for all parties, including Litigation Friends and insurers
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, insurers, and other stakeholders, ensuring regular updates and building strong rapport through calls, video meetings or in‑person contact
  • Work with the PR team on blogs, vlogs or social media activities where requested
  • Ensure accurate retainer documentation, fee estimates and annual updates are completed and issued correctly
  • Request and obtain all necessary client documentation and ensure only approved experts and Counsel are instructed unless otherwise authorised
  • Scrutinise all evidence thoroughly, checking for inconsistencies and cross‑referencing with both Claimant and Defendant arguments
  • Discuss liability and quantum offers promptly, using telephone contact where possible to enhance client rapport
  • May be required to act as an authorised person if requested

Requirements

  • Solicitor, CILEX qualified, or an experienced file handler with a background in managing your own personal injury caseload
  • A proven track record of independently running a successful claimant personal injury caseload
  • Strong experience handling OIC and MOJ claims, with an interest in developing further within a specialist pain‑related area
  • Good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), relevant case law, legislation, and the ability to progress claims efficiently in accordance with the CPR
  • Understanding of the Intermediate Track Fixed Fee regime introduced in October 2023
  • Excellent client care and analytical skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise written and verbal advice
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively and build rapport with external agencies such as medical experts, investigators, and Counsel
  • Confident IT skills, including familiarity with Visualfiles or a similar case management system, and sound MS Office knowledge
  • Strong organisational and time‑management abilities, with a calm, methodical approach and the flexibility to adapt when issues arise
  • A supportive team player who can assist colleagues when needed and contribute positively to the wider team
  • A willingness to listen, learn, and continuously develop knowledge and expertise
  • A strong communicator with empathy, patience, and a client‑focused approach
