This role involves managing a specialist caseload of pain‑related injury claims, using strong technical knowledge and independent case‑handling skills. You will proactively lead cases, identify key issues early, set strategy, and progress matters in line with the Serious Injury Guide and Rehabilitation Code where appropriate. Exceptional client care is essential. You will provide clear communication, manage expectations professionally, and support clients through complex or sensitive matters with confidence and empathy. You will also contribute to developing junior colleagues by offering guidance, reviewing work, and sharing best practice across the team. The role requires strong drafting skills, excellent time management, and the ability to work accurately under pressure. You will be expected to progress cases efficiently, meet KPIs, and contribute positively to the overall performance of the team.
Job Responsibility:
Proactively manage a specialist caseload of Intermediate Track and Multi‑Track motor claims, ensuring all heads of loss are fully explored and evidenced to secure the best outcomes for clients
Work towards targets for profit costs, progression, settlements, and client satisfaction, demonstrating strong commercial awareness
Carry out domiciliary visits where required, handling sensitive discussions with professionalism and care
Demonstrate empathy in all client interactions, identifying vulnerabilities early and adapting your approach accordingly
Record vulnerabilities clearly and escalate any concerns about client capacity to your manager
Gather and assess medical evidence and expert reports in line with departmental processes and approved providers
Liaise with medical experts and maintain continuous risk assessment throughout each case, escalating concerns about prospects where needed
Complete due diligence at key stages, ensuring clients understand fraud risks and issues relating to fundamental dishonesty
Support colleagues with file reviews or case transfers
Instruct Counsel, attend conferences and hearings, and provide clear, accurate instructions to all stakeholders
Manage your workload effectively, prioritising schedule entries, court directions and performance targets
Report any mistakes promptly to support early resolution
Maintain regular, proactive communication with clients, insurers and stakeholders through calls, video meetings and face‑to‑face contact
Support PR activities where appropriate, including blogs, vlogs or social media content
Ensure accurate completion and timely issue of retainer documents, fee estimates and annual updates
Request and review client documentation promptly, using only approved experts and Counsel unless authorised otherwise
Scrutinise evidence carefully, identifying inconsistencies and cross‑referencing Claimant and Defendant positions to shape case strategy
Discuss liability and quantum offers with clients promptly, using telephone contact to maintain strong rapport
Manage daily post and emails efficiently, addressing urgent matters immediately
Assist with internal reporting, projections or data tasks when required
Act as an authorised person when requested
Requirements:
Qualified Solicitor, CILEX Lawyer, or experienced personal injury file handler capable of independently managing a full and varied caseload
Proven ability to run claimant personal injury matters, confidently navigating complex issues and progressing cases proactively
Strong experience with MOJ and Intermediate Track claims, with a genuine interest in developing further within a specialist pain‑related area
Excellent understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), relevant legislation and case law, and the ability to apply these effectively when progressing claims
Awareness of the Intermediate Track Fixed Fee regime introduced in October 2023, with the ability to adapt practices accordingly
Outstanding client care and analytical skills, providing clear, concise and commercially sound written and verbal advice
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, enabling effective liaison with medical experts, investigators, Counsel and other external stakeholders
Proficient IT skills, including experience with Visualfiles (or a similar case management system) and confident use of MS Office
Highly organised and calm under pressure, able to prioritise effectively, work methodically and respond flexibly to challenges
