Job Description:

Are you passionate about accelerating the UK’s transition to clean energy? Installio is looking for a driven and knowledgeable Solar PV & Battery Technical Lead to join our growing team, helping us deliver high-quality, compliant, and efficient renewable energy systems across the country. As one of the UK’s fastest-growing renewable installation companies - and a trusted partner for solar retailers, installers, and manufacturers - Installio is on a mission to build the leading nationwide network of clean-energy professionals. We’re seeking a Solar PV & Battery Technical Lead to oversee the technical design, specification, and quality assurance of residential solar and battery systems. You'll take ownership of system design, provide expert technical support, and ensure all installations meet MCS standards, electrical regulations, and manufacturer requirements. This role is ideal for an experienced solar engineer or electrician looking to step off the tools and into a technical leadership position.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead the end-to-end technical design of residential solar PV and battery storage systems
  • Produce compliant solar PV layouts, inverter/battery specifications, cable schedules, and single-line diagrams
  • Conduct desktop technical assessments using surveys, photos, and design tools
  • Validate roof layouts, shading analysis, and system performance estimates
  • Ensure all designs meet MCS standards, G99/G100 compliance, and DNO requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to installers, project managers, and customers
  • Support installer vetting, training, and quality assurance processes
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and refine system designs based on installer feedback
  • Develop and improve internal design processes, templates, and tools
  • Stay up to date with solar and battery technologies, standards, and best practices

Requirements:

  • Proven experience designing and specifying solar PV and battery systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical installation practices and BS 7671
  • Experience with MCS standards for solar PV and battery storage
  • Confidence interpreting surveys, photos, and roof plans
  • Ability to identify risks, compliance issues, and design optimisations
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Strong communication skills and confidence advising installers
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, growing startup
  • UK driving licence (site visits)

Nice to have:

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Solar PV design software experience (e.g., PVSol, Helioscope, OpenSolar)
  • Battery commissioning or advanced training (e.g., GivEnergy, Tesla, SolarEdge)
  • MCS Solar PV qualification or equivalent
  • Experience leading teams or managing technical workflows
What we offer:
  • £60K annual salary plus bonus
  • 28 days holiday per year (incl. national holidays)
  • Company vehicle
  • Opportunity to shape processes in a rapidly growing renewable business
  • Modern, supportive, and inspiring work environment
