In 2024 alone, it processed over €1 trillion in payments. As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 7–8 engineers in one of the most critical domains of our platform—designing systems that must be correct, resilient, and built for massive scale. You’ll partner closely with other Unified Platform and product teams to shape the future of Adyen’s financial infrastructure.

  • Partner with product and platform teams to design new services with strong reliability and performance guarantees
  • Balance long-term technical investments with feature delivery, making clear, data-driven decisions
  • Build a culture centered on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Set clear team and individual goals aligned with engineering and product strategy
  • Improve operational excellence through automation, observability, and reducing manual toil
  • Recruit and develop engineering talent that thrives in a fast-moving environment

Requirements

  • 3+ years managing engineering teams within a Java (or similar) environment
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced tech setting
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • An energetic self-starter skilled at creating alignment across multiple teams
  • Motivated by solving challenges in distributed systems with high scalability and reliability demands
  • Technically strong in software engineering using Java in a distributed environment
  • Experienced in defining, implementing, and monitoring performance KPIs
  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering talent
  • Able to lead technical projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Experienced working with senior leadership on strategic direction and product roadmaps
  • A clear communicator who can articulate timelines and technical decisions to all audiences
  • Willing to travel when needed to align with colleagues or merchant teams
