Job Description

We’re looking for a Software Engineer II with the right mix of software development, on-line services experience, and passion for quality to envision, design, and deliver Microsoft 365 government cloud service offerings. The Microsoft 365 Sovereign Cloud team works with Microsoft’s largest government customers to deliver features that meet their specific needs and enable cloud adoption. As a Software Engineer II, you will identify and deliver software improvements using your expertise in software development, complexity analysis, and scalable system design. Collaboration skills will be required to work closely with other engineering teams to ensure services/systems are highly stable and performant, meeting the expectations of our government customers and users.

Job Responsibility

  • Demonstrates expertise in distributed systems design, interactions between cloud technology layers and components, common dependencies at scale, and the code that defines infrastructures
  • Develops an understanding of the code, features, and operations of specific products at scale
  • Participates in on-boarding, code/design reviews, and regular meetings with engineering teams
  • Researches and maintains awareness in industry trends, advances in distributed systems and cloud technologies
  • Leverages technical expertise in large scale distributed systems to suggest changes or add-ons to product features or code
  • Develops and tests basic changes to optimize code and improve observability, reliability and operability
  • Engages with product engineering teams by participating in code/design reviews, regular meetings, on-call rotations and incident responses
  • Independently develops code or scripts that automate performance of repetitive operations processes
  • Leverages technical expertise and telemetry analysis to identify patterns and opportunities to implement configuration and data changes
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage existing tools and automation to enable product engineering teams
  • Designs, develops, and maintains telemetry pipelines and monitoring tools
  • Independently performs analyses using existing tools and/or models to identify insights
  • Independently uses existing tools and/or models to troubleshoot problems or flaws

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
