Job Description:

Join Microsoft AI (MAI), the team behind Copilot, Bing, MSN, and Edge, as an agile and driven software engineer building the future of AI experiences. We are looking for a highly motivated Software Development Engineer (SDE) who combines a solid foundation in classic engineering with an intense eagerness to leverage the velocity of the AI era. In this role, you will play a crucial part in building and delivering high-quality features that serve millions of users. You will work alongside industry veterans to bridge the gap between robust distributed systems and cutting-edge AI integration. As an SDE in an AI-native world, you will be expected to write clean, scalable code, continuously learn, and push the boundaries of your own productivity using modern AI tools. MAI operates with the agility and intensity of a startup. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, embrace ambiguity as an opportunity to learn, and demonstrate a solid drive to turn ideas into concrete technical realities. We value 'OPE' (One Person Entrepreneurship). We believe that in the AI era, a highly driven engineer—equipped with the right AI tools—can deliver an outsized impact. We expect you to operate with a proactive, self-starter mindset: Task Ownership: You take pride in your work. You don't just wait for tasks to be assigned; you proactively seek solutions, unblock yourself, and take responsibility for the quality of your deliverables. AI-Accelerated Execution: You are highly motivated to traverse the stack. You view AI not just as a novelty, but as a force multiplier to execute faster, learn quicker, and punch above your weight class. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

  • Continuous Learning & Agility: Demonstrate exceptional learning agility
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, and Research team members to implement complex AI capabilities into intuitive, user-friendly experiences

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of contributing to production-quality software
  • A solid understanding of core software fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, memory management, and basic system design)
  • Ability to be a practitioner of the AI revolution with a solid drive to succeed
  • Solid proficiency and hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: Frontend: (e.g., React, TypeScript, Modern Web Architecture)

  • Exceptional ability to learn on the fly
  • Fluent English communication skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing)
  • Ability to be highly collaborative, positive, and easy to work with

Nice to have:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
