Join CSIRO's Engineering and Technology program as a Software Engineer and play a pivotal role in advancing Australia's marine science. You'll support diverse research projects impacting the Marine National Facility and contribute to developing cutting-edge, in-house equipment used to explore and understand our marine environment. Your work will span from designing robust instrument control systems to developing data acquisition and analysis software, enabling world-class marine research.
Job Responsibility:
Collaborate with team members to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications in line with project requirements
Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software defects and technical issues
Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes
Document code, technical specifications, and user manuals as needed
Communicate progress and challenges effectively within the team and with stakeholders
Communicate openly, effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers
Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to carry out tasks in support of CSIRO scientific objectives
Adhere to the spirit and practice of CSIRO's Values, Code of Conduct, Health, Safety and Environment procedures and policy and diversity initiatives
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum preferred)
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Nice to have:
Experience with modern development tools and environments (e.g., Git, Docker, CI/CD pipelines)
Experience developing or testing web applications, including responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
Ability to develop and execute test plans, write test cases, and document results in defect reports
Proven contribution to a public, open-source projects (own or others)
