The Product Infrastructure team works on creating abstractions and data models that solve enduring problems across the stack. We solve problems that span multiple product surfaces and typically stretch across both front-end and backend and unblock new product avenues that were previously challenging to create.
Job Responsibility:
Shape and build core frameworks that enable reading and writing data in Notion
Design new systems and abstractions that improve developer productivity, reliability, and performance
Solve hard technical challenges such as designing abstractions for efficient traversal of user content graph, building system to sync user content for offline use, or scaling permission model to serve large customers
Requirements:
Thoughtful problem-solving: clear and accurate understanding of context, decompose tricky problems, work towards clean solution
Pragmatic and business-oriented: care about business impact, prioritize projects accordingly, balance craft, speed, and bottom line
Strive for simplicity: think critically about implications, aim for simple and well-crafted design, understand consequence of complexity
Not ideological about technology: understand tradeoffs, can learn new technologies as needed
Empathetic communication: communicate nuanced ideas clearly, engage thoughtfully in disagreements, compromise when needed
Team player: enjoy collaborating cross-functionally, care about learning, growing, and helping others
Curious and willing to adopt AI tools to work smarter and deliver better results
Nice to have:
Leveraged features of typed languages (e.g. TypeScript, Flow) to drive code migrations
Implemented own data modeling paradigms (e.g. writing own ORM, sync engine, or query language)
Seen how fundamental abstractions scale within large codebase
Curious about how different organizations solve similar problems (e.g. TAO by Meta, Zanzibar by Google)
Heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay
Have interests outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences
What we offer:
Highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits
