We are part of the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization, focused on keeping customers protected and productive through reliable, high-quality Windows updates. Our team owns the delivery of Windows images across multiple channels—safely, consistently, and at scale. We build and operate cloud services that automate image creation, validation, and publishing for Windows releases, ensuring every release meets the highest standards of quality and reliability. We’re looking for a Software Engineer II who is passionate about automation and service reliability. In this role, you’ll design and develop scalable services that simplify and strengthen our servicing pipeline—reducing manual steps, improving efficiency, and accelerating delivery. You will also leverage AI capabilities to minimize operational overhead, enhance reliability, and speed up publishing cycles, delivering even greater value to customers and partners. You’ll also participate in our Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) rotation, helping maintain high availability and driving continuous improvements in performance and reliability. Job Responsibility:
Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features
Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight
Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation
Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable
Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code (e.g., leveraging state-of-the-art generative artificial intelligence [GenAI])
Applies best practices to build code based on well-established methods and secure design principles while also applying best practices for new code development and formal validation of security invariants
Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems
Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Nice to have:
Hands-on experience with Azure services (e.g., Service Fabric, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus, Cosmos DB, Application Insights)
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
Knowledge of secure development practices
Experience with observability and telemetry (metrics, logging, dashboards, Kusto queries)
Exposure to AI concepts and ability to apply them for reliability, automation, or predictive insights
Solid communication skills and ability to influence across teams and disciplines
