Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are hiring a Software Engineer II to join Azure Cosmos DB, which is Microsoft’s next-generation, globally distributed, multi-model cloud database service, built to power planet-scale applications. It enables developers to elastically scale throughput and storage across any number of regions, with tunable consistency models. Cosmos DB delivers ultra-low latency and high-performance reads and writes, all backed by enterprise-grade SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
Job Responsibility:
Own the design and implementation of new query engine features
Analyze and optimize processing stages to improve performance and efficiency
Monitor the health of the query service to ensure reliability and high availability
Investigate user-reported issues, deliver high-quality fixes, and highlight opportunities for long-term improvements
Collaborate with partner teams and leadership to manage upstream and downstream dependencies

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience
2+ years of experience designing, developing reliable engineering systems, and/or infrastructure
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Nice to have:
Hands-on experience with query engines and query processing
