Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real‑time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data‑first applications and driving a data culture. Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric. As a Software Engineer II in the Data Engineering team, you will contribute to the cloud infrastructure and large‑scale distributed systems that enable the Spark experience in Microsoft Fabric as well as Microsoft’s Cosmos Analytics big data platform.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, test, and maintain features in distributed services and cloud infrastructure that support large‑scale analytics workloads, following established design patterns and engineering standards
Write well‑tested, maintainable code leveraging AI tools and participate in code reviews
Learn and apply best practices for performance, reliability, and secure development
Participate in on‑call rotations, investigate live‑site issues, apply fixes, and improve service reliability through bug fixes, instrumentation, and automation
Work closely with peers, senior engineers, PMs, and partner teams to deliver features, review designs and code, and integrate with shared platform components
Implement security, privacy, and compliance requirements into code and configurations, and address findings identified through reviews and audits

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed systems
Demonstrated experience with modern infrastructure development practices such as Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps, and/or Platform Engineering
Experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud computing platforms
Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools during the software development lifecycle
