Job Description:

Our teams in ZMS own the platform which enables Zalando partners to run onsite advertising campaigns on the Zalando web and mobile apps. Our solutions help fashion brands to reach Zalando customers via authentic content, tell their story, provide inspiration and drive engagement. As a Software Engineer (Full-Stack) in the ZMS Consumer Experience team, you will develop solutions and create experiences for hundreds of partners and internal users and millions of Zalando customers, including customer-facing advertising formats featured on Zalando home and catalog premises, landing page experiences for brand storytelling, as well as partner-facing content and media management workflows. You will be working alongside a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Frontend and Full-Stack Engineers, Data and Product Analysts, all collaborating to drive innovation and success. This is a full-stack role in the real sense, where the primary focus is on the backend, but there will be many instances where certain projects require pure frontend skills. Therefore, experience on both the backend and frontend are necessary to be successful in this role (think of it as a 60%:40% split backend to frontend).

Job Responsibility:

  • Design, build and evolve scalable full-stack solutions powering customer-facing advertising experiences and partner-facing content workflows used by millions of Zalando customers
  • Own backend-heavy features (around 60%) while confidently contributing to frontend development (around 40%) when strong UI and UX skills are needed
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Data Analysts and Engineers to turn product ideas and business needs into robust technical solutions
  • Build and improve APIs, data models and persistence layers, ensuring high performance, scalability and reliability
  • Create accessible and performant frontend experiences using React and modern web standards
  • Improve system performance, observability and reliability by applying DevOps best practices and contributing to CI/CD and cloud-native infrastructure
  • Break down complex problems into iterative, value-driven solutions while maintaining a high bar for code quality and simplicity
  • Share knowledge, mentor other engineers and contribute to technical discussions that shape the future of the ZMS Consumer Experience platform

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience building full-stack web applications, ideally using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Comfortable working across the stack, including React, core web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, browser concepts), and backend systems
  • Strong experience with relational data modeling, SQL, and data persistence using RDBMS
  • Experience designing, evaluating, and optimizing scalable, reliable systems with a focus on performance, throughput, and latency
  • Experience applying modern DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, observability, Docker, Kubernetes, and common AWS services
  • Ability to communicate clearly about complex technical and architectural topics with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to break down large problems into smaller, iterative solutions that deliver customer value
  • Enjoy mentoring junior and intermediate engineers and helping remove blockers

Nice to have:

  • Experience with other backend languages Java or Python
  • Deep JavaScript knowledge
  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Experience with Express.js
  • Experience with testing practices
  • Experience with data engineering concepts
What we offer:
  • Employee shares program
  • 40% off fashion and beauty products sold and shipped by Zalando
  • 30% off Zalando Lounge
  • Discounts from external partners
  • 2 paid volunteering days a year
  • Hybrid working model with 60% remote per week
  • Work from abroad for up to 30 working days a year
  • 27 days of vacation a year (for Zalando SE)
  • Relocation assistance available (subject to prior agreement)
  • Family services, including counseling and support
  • Health and wellbeing options (including Gympass)
  • Mental health support and coaching available
