Job Description

Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure that powers the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud mission. SCHIE delivers core infrastructure technologies for Microsoft’s 200+ online businesses, including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally. Our server and data center infrastructure, security, compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions focus on smart growth, high efficiency, and trusted experience for customers and partners worldwide. We are looking for a Software Engineer based in Taiwan to join the Hardware Health Service team. The team is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of global cloud services that monitor fleet hardware health and predict anomalies and pending failures. We focus on delivering solutions for cloud service platforms with the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) and the best possible customer experience while operating on unreliable hardware at Azure scale. Azure Hardware Health Service is part of the Azure business. As a Software Engineer, you will work on cloud service development and contribute to building and delivering software-defined solutions that power Azure and continuously improve our world-class cloud infrastructure. To be successful in this role, you must have experience delivering quality results to customers, an engineering mindset, an aptitude for learning and agility, and strong fundamentals in software engineering.

Job Responsibility

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain software components and services within an existing system architecture
  • Collaborate with team members, product managers, and partner engineers to deliver assigned features and improvements
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established engineering best practices and coding standards
  • Participate in design discussions and technical reviews, providing input and feedback under guidance from senior engineers
  • Debug and resolve issues in development, test, and production environments, escalating complex or ambiguous problems when appropriate
  • Contribute to service reliability, performance, security, and compliance requirements, particularly in health-related and regulated environments
  • Participate in code reviews to learn from peers and help maintain code quality across the team
  • Continuously improve technical skills and domain knowledge by learning from experienced teammates and applying feedback
  • Understands and applies Microsoft’s responsible AI practices to ensure systems meet our commitments to our customers
  • Collaborate effectively with remote teams in global locations to ensure architectural alignment and feature delivery while mentoring and coaching junior and senior engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
  • Professional working proficiency in English (written and verbal) for effective technical communication with global stakeholders
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience

  • Understanding hardware and devices, or familiarity with OS and Firmware health and error reporting

  • Experience working on backend services, cloud-based systems, or distributed systems
  • Experience in big data mining, familiar with Hadoop/Spark is a plus
  • Experience in object-oriented programming, SDE Fundamentals, and programming
