We're hiring for Azure SQL and Azure DB for PostgreSQL services and teams within Azure Databases. Our Core SQL Engineering team is on a mission to drive a foundational approach to modernizing SQL codebase, by improving the core SQL components, engineering techniques and tooling (automation, observability, code transformation and validation), by betting on well-proven as well as cutting-edge novel approaches, to deliver the industry leading scalable software engineering. We collaborate with many core engineering teams of Azure and SQL, Microsoft Research and other research groups. One of the most significant outcomes from this team will be a cutting edge copilot for understanding and developing code. Our code base is large and diverse, and is challenging for even the advanced publicly available AI models and tools. Hence, we're pushing the industry boundaries with our emerging Code Copilot. We are looking for Software Engineers who are passionate and highly motivated to work on researching, solving deep technical problems, and taking on new challenges. Job Responsibility:

  • Design, produce and deliver software to improve the reliability, scalability, performance, security, and efficiency of a cloud service
  • Contribute with fixing, enhancing, and supporting our services in production, including periodic on-call duties
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the world to address all requirements needed to run enterprise-grade services
  • Participate actively in code reviews, bug/issue triage with the feature teams, and support well informed decisions towards business and engineering goals
  • Review and influence ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for operating services and systems

Requirements:

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline OR equivalent experience
  • Experience in system programming
  • Some software development experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Great collaboration and team-player skills

Nice to have:

  • Demonstrated excellence in coding and technical communication
  • Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including, but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Rust
  • Experience with large scale services, distributed systems
  • Strong customer focus and data driven approach
  • Adaptability in fast paced environment
