We're looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our team in a prison service in Edinburgh. This role is crucial in providing social work services to prisoners, with a particular focus on those convicted of sexual offences. You'll be part of a dedicated team that supports rehabilitation and reintegration.
Job Responsibility:
Undertake comprehensive assessments of individuals convicted of sexual offenses. This includes social circumstances, risk of re-offending, and needs assessments
Conduct and write up risk assessments (e.g., LSCMI, RSVP, SARN). Accreditation in these tools is essential
Develop and implement care and risk management plans in collaboration with prison staff and other agencies
Provide direct social work support to prisoners, addressing issues related to family relationships, housing, and personal well-being
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to case conferences, parole reports, and release planning
Liaise with external agencies, such as community mental health teams, housing associations, and voluntary organisations
Maintain accurate and confidential case records in line with professional standards
Requirements:
A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
Current SSSC registration as a social worker
Significant post-qualifying experience in a criminal justice setting or with individuals convicted of sexual offenses
Accreditation and practical experience in using structured risk assessment tools for sexual offenders (e.g., LSCMI, RSVP, SARN, or similar)
A strong understanding of the legal frameworks related to sexual offending and risk management in Scotland
Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a complex caseload
Nice to have:
Knowledge of the Scottish prison system and its operations
Experience in group work and facilitating therapeutic interventions
A full UK driving license is preferred as occasional travel may be required
